The Linkages of Periodontal Disease with Other Bodily Infections

If you had always believed that periodontitis is a small thing that does not need to be taken very seriously, then you are totally wrong.  Truth of the matter is, you are putting your life at risk once you suffer from it.   Without you even knowing it, there are a plethora of other bodily ailments that have been proven to have linkages with periodontal disease.  Some of these are light, but most of them are fatal.  Therefore, it is important to treat periodontal disease before it cuts off your life.

A number of other diseases have been discovered to be related to peridontitis.  One of them is colon cancer.  According to researches, in the United States, colon cancer in the second most prevalent cause of cancer deaths among its citizens.  Therefore, it is a risky condition and being under it can be really a pain.  Recently, it has been discovered that people with periodontal disease are most likely to suffer from colon cancer as well due to the fact that a common bacterium is detected on both of them.  This bacterium being referred to is called “fusobacterium” and it is of great importance to eradicate this before it escalates to any of the two diseases mentioned.

Periodontal disease also has linkages with anemia.  Anemia is a condition wherein the hemoglobin content of the blood is drastically low.  This can be very dangerous if not worked on properly.  Incidentally, other researches have also shown that people with periodontal disease also have very low hemoglobin content in their blood.  This goes to show that people with periodontal disease are also anemics.  This is something that should be treated as soon as possible since having them both can be really fatal at some point.

Coronary heart infection has also been proven to have linkages with periodontal disease.  Since it is bacteria that causes periodontal disease, this condition allows the bacteria to travel freely along the bloodstream.  Having this happen can allow the bacteria to infiltrate the arteries of the heart and may trigger bacteria to develop in there.  Such instances could also be very dangerous as heart disease is a well known killer among humans.

With the array of diseases one can suffer from, it is important to treat periodontal disease.  The question is what could be the best periodontal disease treatment?  The answer is pretty straightforward though.  As long as you keep your oral hygiene at a consistent level, then there is nothing to worry at all.  Not even the slightest case of periodontal disease will exist with proper oral health to back you up.
